"The Trinity of Man"

The Bible says that man consists of three component parts: body, soul and spirit. Man is a triune being because he is made in the image of the Triune God (Gen. 1;26-27), the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

You Must Be Divine Because God Made You Three Parts of a Man

I.                    INTRODUCTION

1. The term "Trinity of Man," distinct from the Trinity of God or the Triune God, may not be familiar to many. It refers to the "Tri-Partite" nature of man, mirroring the "Tri-Partite" nature of God, thus making man a "Trinity." Created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27), the "Trinity of Man" consists of the Spirit, the Soul, and the Body, reflecting God's image and likeness. We understand that the Body is the temple that houses the Spirit and the Soul. However, many of us might not fully understand the entities of the Spirit and the Soul! Last week, we studied the “Number 3” when I introduced you to Bible Mathematics and Bible Numerology. We talked about the “Importance of the “Number.” We said, amongst other things:

The “Number 3” appears in the KJV of the Bible 467 times, and primarily “REPRESENTS” Divine,

“Wholeness,” “Completeness,” and “Perfection.” It means “God Is IN IT!” The number “Three.”

symbolizes the “TRINITY,” , the “Triune God,” the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

2. Today, we see illuminated in our text the “Three-Part of a Man,” illustrating the “Works of God,” the

“Spirit,” the “Soul,” and the “Body.”

3.  Sermon Clarity: 1 Thessalonians 5:23, “I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved

blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

II.                 You Must Be Divine Because God Made You Three Parts of a Man

Contextual Background

1. The Sacred Text of I Thessalonians 5:23 illuminates the fact that “The God of Peace” Himself

“sanctify” every “Believer” as Wholly. He “sanctifies” each of us (Believers) by spreading into and

saturating our “Whole” being, starting from our “Spirit,” and continuing into our “Soul,” and

eventually including your body. By being “Wholly Filled” with God in every part of our being, God can

then be expressed through, as the “Word” says, in Mark 16:15-16, “15 And he said unto them, Go ye

into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall

be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

2. Now, before we discover what’s on the “INSIDE” of the “Three Part” man, let us glean an

understanding of what it means to “Sanctify,” which we had recently in another message. And let’s

also get an understanding of what is meant by to be made “Wholly.” Amen! Somebody!

Divine Sanctification

3. The Scared Text of 1 Thessalonians 5:23 highlights the “Role of God” in the process of

“Sanctification,” which means to be made “Holy” and (Wholly). First, we continue to illuminate the

“Sanctification” is lifelong and involves “Believers” separating from evil and growing in

holiness. That’s right, it is NOT enough to be aka “SAVED,” “HOLY GHOST FILLED,” and so-called “FIRE BAPTIZED!” Many Christians proclaim to be just that!” But we as Believers, humbly accept the

gracious gift of being God’s Children and Co-heir with Christ Jesus! And we surrender and submit to

embarking on a journey of a lifetime, which requires that we remain “set apart” from evil as our father

matures “US” into a more profound realm of “Holiness” as we continue our lifelong journey under the

teachings of Christ Jesus, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

2. Secondly, as we develop our relationship with God, we must never forget that the process of “Sanctification” means that we are “constantly and continuously” being set apart for a special purpose. To be “Co-heirs” with Christ in the Kingdom of Heaven. And to be made into holy” vessels” in the fullness of God! What a Mighty God Who deems His Children to be Holy!

3. Thirdly, looking deeper into the ‘process of “Sanctification,” we are made “Holy” because God set “US” apart from the “evils of the world and made “US” worthwhile for His kingdom. 1 Thessalonians 4:7 says, 7 “God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. 8 Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

Are You All-In “Wholly?

4. Fourthly, we must illuminate a similar word, “Wholly,” which comes from the Hebrew word “mille,” which means to Completely, Perfectly, Totally, and Fully. It also means to Accept and Follow leadership guidance to the fullest extent!

III.                The Spirit, the Soul, and the Body

Then, the Text says, “I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” [1] ( I Thessalonians 5:23). God, in His Divine Sovereign power, created the “Trinity of Man,” in the form of the Spirit, the Soul, and the Body.

1. The First Point: “YOU” woke up when “Your Spirit” met “God’s Spirit!” God’s Spirit led you to “Darkness,” where your Spirit met the “Beacon of Light” that is the Holy Spirit. Can I get a witness? Somebody! The Text says, “I pray God your whole Spirit (1 Thess. 5:22). The Spirit that God breathed into us created our human Spirit, which became the  “Innermost part of our inner organ, possessing God-“consciousness,” that became our contact with God:

a.  John 4:24 (NLT) says, “24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and

truth.” [2] Truth is, this is a “Spirit to Spirit” connection!

b.  Truth is a Divine Bi-Frequency Spiritual connection. In Romans 8:16 (NLT), Scripture says, “For his

Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.”

c.  Truth is the human Spirit requires Transition out of the world, which leads to Transformation into

a God Spirit to Human Spirit connection. Romans 12:2 says, “2 Don’t copy the behavior and

customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.

Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.“ [ That’s

the First part of the Trinity of man!

2.  The Second Point: Your “Soul” is your  “Beacon of Light” for the inner God Positional System! The

“Soul” is our humanity that makes us “FEEL” emotions. It is your internal beacon that aligns the

internal GPS of your personality. The Text says, “ I pray God your whole spirit and soul. Dr. Myles

Monroe once said this about God’s “Spirit and man’s “Soul.” “God’s Spirit gives man's spirit

instructions, man's soul then takes God's will as his will, and instructs his mind, which then affects his

emotions for the man to take action.”

a. The “Human Soul” is our very self, a medium between our Spirit and body, possessing self-

the consciousness that we may have our personality. The Soul is Feeling God and Jesus! The Spirit

is Receiving and Believing in God and Jesus! The Soul is for Feeling! The Spirit is for Receiving and

Believing! Can I get a witness? Somebody!

b.  Matt. 16:26 says, “26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul? Is

anything worth more than your soul.”[ See, the “Soul” is the Second part of the “Trinity of Man!”

c. The “GPS” of our “Soul” is regenerated once we “ACCEPT” Christ! Now, our “Soul” needs to be

“Jumpstarted” daily through God’s Word and Prayer. Romans 12:1 says, “I plead with you to give

your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice that he

will find acceptable.”

d. Our “Soul” is our personality! It is who we are! With our ‘Soul,’ we Think, Reason, Consider,

Remember and Wonder. We Experience ‘Emotions: Happiness, Love, Sorrow, Wonder, Relief, and

Compassion!

e. And we can Resolve, to Choose, and to make Decisions!

f. Man’s human “Soul” is the Second part of the “Trinity of Man!” God’s “Tri-Partite Man!

3.  The Third Point: It’s all about the ‘Body.’ God created your body just for you. It is precisely

“Designed” to be the third part of the ‘Trinity of Man!’  The ‘Tripartite’ Man! Our ‘Body’  is our external

‘body’ or outer part of our human Temple, possessing ‘world-consciousness’ that may contact the

material world.

a. Our bodies contain the ‘Soul,’ and the ‘Soul’ is the vessel that ‘contains’ our ‘Spirit.’ 1 Cor. 6:19-20

says, “Do you NOT know that your ‘Bodies’ are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you

have received from God? You are NOT your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God

with your bodies.”

b. 1 Cor. 3:16-17 says, “Your ‘Body’ is a temple for your “Spirit.”

c. 1 Cor. 15:44 says, “It is ‘Sown’ a natural ‘Body,’ it is raised a spiritual ‘Body,’ there is also a spiritual

‘Body.’”

d. 1 Cor. 12:27 says, “Now you are the ‘Body’ of Christ, and each ‘ONE’ of you is a part of it.”

e. Rom. 12:4 says, “For just as each of us has ONE ‘Body’ with many members, and these members do

Not all have the same function.”

f. Now listen to this: Our “Human Body” exists in and ‘contacts’ the tangible things of the material

world using our five senses. The ‘Body’ is the visible, external part of our being and contains

the ‘Soul.’ Glory, Hallelujah! Somebody!

Closing Reflections

1. Let me ‘Close,’ and share this with you about the ‘Final’ part of the “Trinity of Man.” We have

journeyed through the “Tri-Partite Man, “the  First Part, the ‘Spirit,’ the Second Part, the ‘Soul,’ and

now, the Final Part,  the ‘Body!’ The ‘Temple’ of humanity!

a. Romans 12:4-6 says, 4 “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these

members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and

each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to

each of us.”

b. It’s your ‘Body’ that ‘safeguards’ your “Spirit” and your “Soul,” For the Bible says in Mark

17:15 (KJV), “15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the

things that come out of him, those that defile the man.
